Christmas lights for Halfmoon townhomes and condos
A big share of Halfmoon's newer housing is townhomes and condos, and they need a different plan than a detached house. The roofline is shared, the garage door is the widest thing on the front, and there's often one outdoor outlet per unit, sometimes on the back patio instead of the front.
What tends to work on a townhome:
- A short C9 run on your section of the eave, matched to the neighbors if they light theirs
- A wreath over the garage or on the front door, which carries farther than the lights themselves
- Garland and mini lights on the entry railing or the post light
If your neighbors are interested too, book the row together. One installer doing four or five units in a visit gets matching bulbs and spacing, which looks far better than four different strands of four different whites.
Most of all, check with the association before you book. Many communities control what gets attached to the exterior. Our Christmas decorating service page covers wreaths and garland if the roofline is off limits.
Subdivisions off Route 9 and the colonials of Halfmoon
Away from the townhome communities, Halfmoon's single-family subdivisions look a lot like neighboring Clifton Park: two-story colonials and raised ranches with attached garages and young trees out front. On those, start with the front roofline in C9s and add wrapped trees or lit shrubs along the walk. If your house backs onto the Clifton Park line, our Clifton Park page covers the same style of colonial in more depth.
Near the Hudson and the Mohawk: holiday lighting on the edges of Halfmoon
Homes toward the Hudson on the east side of town and toward the Mohawk in the south take more wind, and some sit on larger lots with longer driveways. Two things to raise with the installer: how runs are clipped on the exposed side of the house, and how far the nearest outdoor outlet is from the trees you want lit. A long driveway lined with stake lights looks great until the first plow pass, so mark the stakes or keep them back from the edge.
Permanent lights on newer Halfmoon homes
A lot of Halfmoon's single-family homes are recent builds with straight eaves and vinyl or aluminum trim, which is exactly what permanent Christmas lights are designed for. The track sits under the eave, the LEDs are app-controlled, and the same lights cover December, game days and the Fourth of July. For townhomes it's a harder sell, since the association usually controls the exterior and the roofline is shared.
Christmas light removal in Halfmoon
Lights usually come down in January. If you lease the lights through the installer, takedown and packing are often part of the deal; if you own them, ask whether they'll be labeled by section so next year goes faster.
